Malachi Edwin Vethamani is an Indian professor, poem writter, teacher trainer and bibliographer. He was born on 8 July 1955 in Brickfields which is located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Malachi Edwin Vethamani's early education was in Methodist Boy's Primary School, Kuala Lumpur. Then, at age 13 he continued studying at Methodist Boy's Secondary School,Kuala Lumpur.
He also got Higher School Certificate at Vanto Academy which is in Petaling Jaya. After that, Malachi Edwin Vethamani existed the Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, Diploma in Education and for second language, Master of Education in Teaching English in University of Malaya (UM). The highest degree which was awarded in English was from University of Nottingham, England. Vincent Jeremiah Edwin and Julian Matthew Edwin are Malachi Edwin Vethamani's sons. he is really active in participating in the local and world wide literary scene. Malachi Edwin Vethamani is the creation of ‘Men Matters Online Journal’. It was published twice a year, June and December. The journal mostly about culture, politics, traditions, regarding the males and sensuality.
Other that that, Malachi Edwin Vethamani was the principalof University Nottingham starting June until December 2020. In 2015, he was the Professor of Modern English Literature. University of Nottingham was given him the tittle Emeritus Professor. Malachi Edwin Vethamani was the head of Taylor's University from 2011 - 2014 and the Wawasan Open University. Prof. Malachi started his teaching at Maktab Rendah Sains MARA in Pangkalan Chepa, Kelantan in 1979. Then, Malachi Edwin Vethamani continued teaching at MRSM Jasin, Melaka in 1986 and left the university in order to teach in University Putra Malaysia (UPM). It was known as University Pertanian Malaysia long time ago.
In 2015, he got the chance to visit School of Liberal Arts, Mahidol University, Bangok, Thailand. The commitee member of the special projects, Malaysian Professional Council was Malachi Edwim Vethamani. Moreover, he was chosen to be the President of Malaysian English Language Teaching Association which is probably known as MELTA. From 2008 to 2013, he was the Vice President for Asian Association of teachers and lastly he continued as an advisor in Asia TEFL, Trustee. Malachi Edwin Vethamani was well known as a contributor for two Malaysian newspapers which are New Sunday Times and Sunday Star. He published poems and some short stories too. The poems that he had published are Mother Poems: English-Tamil Bilingual edition, Life Happens and Complicated Lives. The example of short stories that he wrote are ‘Sleeping Demon’, ‘Road Trip’ andCoitus Interruptus and Other Stories.
Furthermore, he had edited some scholary work because he was the General Editor of MELTA. Malachi Edwin Vethamani was given many awards. The first award was the Vice-Chancellor's Achivement Medal in University of Nottingham in 2019. The award was given by Professor Graham Kenadall, Provost from University of Nottingham, Malaysia. The second award was for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in 2018/2019. He also received Asian Education Leadership Award by World Education Congress in Mumbai, India and followed by Malaysian English Language Teaching Association. This was the special award which was received from Her Royal Highness Raja Zarith Sofiah binti Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah, the permaisuri of Johor. Malachi Edwin Vethamani received Fulbright Scholarship in 2000 and followed by Chevening Award.
Finally In 2004, Malachi Edwin Vethamani had published a teacher's handbook named Developments In Teaching Literature in English. This item furnish about the teaching and reading skills in a text form.
